Questions

What should I learn first on dobro?

Follow the Beginner lessons in order: tune to open G, learn to play in tune with the bar (intonation), warm up, then learn forward and backward rolls.

What are good first songs on dobro?

You Are My Sunshine, in the key of C, and Cripple Creek, in the key of G. Both are in the Beginner level.

What gear do I need as a beginner?

Finger picks and a steel (the bar). A capo is handy but optional.

I'm new to lap steel. Will these lessons help?

The dobro is played on your lap with a steel bar, so bar control, intonation, picks and rolls carry over. Every lesson is in open G tuning; there's no C6, pedal steel or electric lap steel instruction.

Can I learn dobro for free?

Yes. Every lesson is free with a free account. The free Dobro Starter Kit also has three lessons that play with no login (Tuning, Intermediate Rolls and Harmonics), an open-G tuning chart and the tab for your first roll. No card needed.
